Museum of Modern Art

Perhaps the most prominent museum in New York City, the Museum of Modern art, otherwise known as “Moma,” houses more than 100,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures and other works by the greatest artists of the 20^th century, including everything from Mexican art to European pieces to African artifacts, and renowned works from van Gogh, Picasso and Monet.

 

South Street Seaport

Located within an eleven-square-block historic district alongside the East River, namely between South, Pearl, John, and Fulton Streets in lower Manhattan, the South Street Seaport reflects the amazing maritime heritage of New York City. Moored at Piers 15 and 16 are several ships that date as far back as 1885; it is the largest fleet of historic sailing ships anywhere in the world. Along the cobblestone streets of the seaport are various other museums, shops and restaurants to complete the experience.

Winner of the 1996 “Best Musical” Award, Rent is a gripping look at life, love, and AIDS through a group of East Village hipsters in downtown New York's Alphabet City. Directed by Michael Grief, the play has an open run at the famed Nederlander Theatre.

 

Metropolitan Opera Company

Opened in 1883, the Metropolitan Opera continues as one of the world's leading opera companies, staging more than 200 hundred performances in just a 32-week season.

A total of more than 800,000 people attend the performances in the opera house. The Opera House also features individual computerized screens mounted on each seat that provide translations of the performance.
