Opened in 1959, the Guggenheim is one of the most prominent museums in all of New York City. The museum is primarily dedicated to modern art, featuring works by Picasso, van Gogh and Kandinsky, among many others. The Guggenheim is located in Upper Manhattan at 1071 5th Avenue at East 89th Street, along Museum Mile. However, because the museum has acquired such an extensive collection over time, it was forced to open a separate branch called the Guggenheim SoHo, located on Broadway at Prince Street. Modern art from the permanent collection is featured at the SoHo branch, whereas the temporary exhibitions are usually featured at the main museum.
