For more than fifty years the Lincoln Center has been one of the most prominent venues for New York’s performing arts culture. The Lincoln Center is comprised of seven distinctive venues, each featuring a distinctive genre of performance art. Avery Fisher Hall is the Center’s oldest building, and features the New York Philharmonic Orchestra; the Metropolitan Opera House is home to the Metropolitan Opera and the City Opera; the New York State Theater showcases The New York City Ballet; the Vivian Beaumont Theater is a renowned playhouse; the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater is also a playhouse and specializes in more “underground” theater performances; Alice Tully Hall is home to the Chamber Music Society; and the Walter Reade Theater features major film productions. Additionally, the Lincoln Center offers free outdoor concerts, especially during the warmer months.
